Driving in-person traffic is one of the biggest challenges facing owners of hospitality businesses. Take a stroll down your local café strip and see the amount of empty tables and chairs at the restaurants as you walk by.

That is why it was such a key success story for our client to double their revenue by generating over 550 in person visits to their café within a 30 day period.

Campaign Budget: Just $15 per day — proving that effective Google Ads doesn't require a massive budget.

We did this by using Google Ads and running on a lean budget of $15 per day.

How We Did It

We started with search term research, using the Keyword Planner tool in Google Ads. We selected fifteen keywords to start with and five of those keywords were to be used as part of Broad Match keyword type.

Keyword Strategy: We used a mix of 5 Broad Match keywords (to discover new converting search terms) and 10 Exact Match keywords (for precise targeting).

We included these five keywords as Broad Match type so that we could measure for any converting search terms that we hadn't explicitly targeted for. The remaining keywords we used Exact Match for the keyword type.

With the keywords selected, we then proceeded to create the Ad Copy. For the campaign to perform well, the Ad Copy should include the search terms that we are targeting.

We then setup the Conversion Goals. This is as important as the other steps and is easy to overlook or get wrong. Below are the Conversion Goals we optimised for:

• Get Directions • Submit Contact Form • Call the Café

Critical Step: Setting up proper conversion tracking is easy to overlook but essential for campaign success. We tracked Get Directions, Contact Form Submissions, and Phone Calls.

This was to tell Google to go and find users who would be most likely to complete those conversion tasks.

How Long Did It Take?

We ran the campaign for two months, making optimisations to the search terms and experimenting with different ad copies as the campaign progressed.

Results

After two months of optimisation, the campaign successfully generated over 550 in-person café visits per month. This dramatic increase in foot traffic resulted in the café doubling their revenue compared to the same period from the previous year.
